HM Team, hanging out with Adry Sánchez
Adry Sanchez is a young tattooer but he's getting known all around Europe due to his talent with realistic tattoos. Getting an appointment with him is really difficult but the wait really worth it if you get a tattoo so incredible as the one he did at the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo, where he won Best of Show for a leg sleeve.
We are lucky we are very close to Adry so we visited him at his studio, La Pinta Tattoo, for a brief interview about his works and his relationship with HM Machines. This is what he told us!
HM Team, hanging out with Johnny Domus Mesquita
As far as he can remember, he has always drawn, firstly in paper during his studies in Art, afterwards in skin. Johnny Domus Mesquita started working in one of the two tattoos shops in his hometown until he opened his own studio in 2006 and he's currently very well known in Europe for his incredible designs of neotraditional style. He's been working with HM Machines for a long time... What does he think about them?
When did you start tattooing?
I started when I was 16, just right after I finished high school where I studied Art. I had tough times working on a night shift in a factory and learning about tattooing during the day. At that time there were only two shops in town so I was lucky I could start in the tattoo world!
Your works are amazing. Could you share any little tip for Neotraditional tattoos?
I dont have any tricks. I just try to make good, solid, long lasting tattoos. I want to see my tattoos in 20 years and they still look pretty much the same. Quality machines, needles, creams... Everything we use matters.
What HM Machines do you use?I use la Niña for bold lines, La Pinta mostly to aply black or color and I personally like the Power Glide for color packing. Why do you use more than just one machine?I use more than one machine to have more options to work on the pieces, because I sometimes change something from the design or I come up with a different option and I like to have the tools in my hand. What do you like the most about HM?I like HM machines because of their combination of light weight and design, as well as the reability. I can work fast and with quality and, of course, the great support I receive from HM. They do care about tattooers.
HM Team, hanging out with Dmitri Rechnoy
We love the works we receive from the cold Russia as they are not cold at all!! Some designs are full of color and textures. They leave you speachless! We contacted our colleague Dmitri Rechnoy from XK Tattoo in Moscow to get to know what's behind his relationship with our machines. He started tattooing in 1993 and he has been loyal to Old School style since then. In fact, he's one of the best artists of the traditional tattoo nowadays. He's been working with HM Machines for more than 15 years so he knows our babies very, very well!!
You have been using HM Machines for a long time. Which are your favourites?
I love Franky because of its power, the stroke and the weight. It's quite light and comfortable for my works! I also like the Classic as it's perfect for coloring, shading and lining.
So you use more than just one machine for your designs, right?
Yes, sure! I usually use 2 or 3 liners and 1 or 2 shaders. That's why I like Franky and Classic, as they are what I need.
We are happy to know our babies behave well at your studio! What do you like the most of HM machines, in general?
HM machines are reliable and simple, which means they are easy to use and hard to break. Their motors are excellent and my work is more productive when I use them.
HM Team, hanging out with Lucky Gold
We always say our machines are like babies to us! We produce each one handmade, with lot of care during the production and we make sure they are in the best hands! We really expect they perform well with tattooers and for that reason we want to hear what our best artists from the HM Team have to say about them. This time, it's Lucky Gold's turn to share with us his experience with HM Machines.
Lucky Gold was born in Argentina but he has never stopped travelling, meeting people and, specially, tattoing. He opened his first studio 20 years ago, Experience Tattoo, and now he has 3 as well as an amazing team of tattooers working with him. Either America or Europe have any secret for this great artist who works between Argentina and Sweden, so we really wanted to know his opinion about HM Machines!!
When did you start tattooing?
I did my first tattoo 22 years ago and I did all the styles. I started with tribals and simple caricatures, and I also did a lot of biomechanic and full color.
Now you are a master in Realism. In your opinion, what are the skills needed for this style?
Well, thank you! I would say you need to know quite a lot about drawing and painting as Realism respects lights and shades, and the real volume of the elements in the composition. I think a tattooer has to be really patient in this style and has to work as much as needed to replicate the textures in the design.
Which HM Machines do you use for realistic tattoo?
In order to do a complete realistic tattoo I usually take 6 machines: La Niña (7 round liner), La Santa María (15 magnum), the Lucky Gold Evolution (9 magnum), the Classic (7 round shader), the Evolution (25 magnum) and the Bruno Kea coil machine (9 round liner).
Why do you prefer tattooing with more than just one machine?
It's comfortable to have different machines for each stage of the tattoo. Besides, each machine is designed for a specific use, either lines, shades o packing.
What do you like the most about HM Machines?
I met Roman in 2010 at Trondeheim show, in Norway, and he offered me to use the Evolution to tattoo a large shade. I tried the machine and it was much easier, the result was amazing and I had to spend less time tattooing. I had never had to tune any of my machines and they work for a lot of time: I still use the Evolution Roman gave me 7 years ago!!
Adry Sanchez wins Best of Show at the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo
We started the week with awesome news!! Our Spanish colleague from the HM Team, Adry Sanchez, has come back home with two awards in his suitcase from the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo. He is the winner of Best of Day (Sunday) and Best of Show!! HM Tattoo Machines shared the booth with this great artist and we are very proud he trusted our machines for his works. Thank you, Adry, for your confidence!
He left everybody astonished with an incredible leg sleeve, loyal to his realistic style. Comic superheroes, such as Wolverine, Spiderman, Thor, are just some of the characters he tattooed for more than 25 hours and the result is as Adry always does: WOW!
